RICHARD BROWN. I have been attending Crossroads Community Church (Parker, CO) for about 5 years, play bass for the worship team, and am a small group leader for the Saturday Men’s group. I am married with 4 children (22, 21 19, 17). I am an power systems engineering consultant by profession, and have published several engineering books. But my current passion is theology, and I recently started teaching theology classes at Colorado Christian University.

    H. LEE WILLIS. I am a member of Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary, NC, where I sing during services but quietly since I cannot carry a tune in a bucket with a lid. Like Richard, I am a power engineer but a generation older, a widower with three sons (48, 46, and 43), and three grandchildren (17, 15, 4). Richard and I worked together for nearly 15 years, and the best part of every day we did was early in the morning, when we would sit over coffee and talk about anything but engineering, sharing our thoughts about family, the real priorities in life, and God. Like Richard, I have published many engineering books as well as a few non-technical books, and in late life have morphed into much more of a writer than an engineer. But I am a devoted Christian, who obtained an M.Div to better understand God, and like him, a small-group leader for my Church’s men’s group. I do not feel that is a coincidence. Life’s priorities and flow separated us by half a continent many years ago, but we are kindred spirits, on similar trajectories through life.
As engineers, Richard and I love specificity and know the importance of detail. I strongly recommend his book Christian Theology and Denomination Variations (see his Resources section) as a good foundation for any Christian’s study of the Bible. That said, my own belief is firmly anchored in the knowledge that we are incapable of fully understanding who and what God is, where he is, or how we works, and that he has given us the Bible as a guide in understanding his covenent with us, what he expects of us, and what his son taught us about how to be good Christians.

Attend Crossroads in Parker – Currently a cloud platform/software sales engineer working in federal and defense industry. I am married with 3 adult children (29, 27 and 20) and have also served time as a youth pastor and youth evangelist.

My view of theology is really shaped around the concept of precept/principle/person – learning a PRECEPT, built on a PRINCIPLE, defined by the PERSON of God. The ‘art’ of theology is building a relationship with God, modeled through example by his Son, revealed in the Bible through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and observed in nature as a reflection of our creator.

Curious about theology from the standpoint that the Sermon on the Mount doesn’t speak any words about what to believe – Jesus’ focus was on doing – and by the Nicene creed there were no statements on doing – just a list of what to believe. How do I help bring the dichotomy back together in my own life where my believes and my actions are so joined as to not be discernably different.
